    The RTX Technology Research Center (RTRC) is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Advanced Manufacturing Test Engineer. The candidate will join the Advanced Manufacturing Team which specializes in the development and demonstration of manufacturing technologies for internal deployment as well as for external research programs across a variety of technical areas including machining, cold spray, additive manufacturing, robotic automation, amongst many others. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, testing, optimization, and demonstration of novel manufacturing processes including Waterjet Guided Laser and/or Ultrasonic Impact Grinding, as well as design of test articles and fixturing and CNC programming of multi-axis machining centers. The individual will participate in project meetings with cross-functional teams, assist in manufacturing process development, support project reviews with internal and external customers, and produce coupons and hardware for testing, demo, and evaluation. The individual will work with the team in a fast-paced, R&D environment alongside leading scientists and colleagues from across RTRC and the greater RTX organization (including Collins Aerospace, Pratt and Whitney, and Raytheon) to conceive, develop, and demonstrate next generation technologies for Aerospace and Defense applications.

    Responsibilities

    Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and computer-aided design (CAD) files to determine the correct settings and tooling for each application

    Use CAD/CAM tools to model cutting paths and program multi-axis machines

    Design fixturing, tooling, and process parameters to enable manufacturing of parts with exceptional quality and in the most cost-effective manner

    Program probing routines to locate parts in a 5-axis CNC machine

    Perform test cuts on a 5-axis waterjet guided laser or ultrasonic impact grinding machining centers to cut, drill, and dice a variety of advanced materials including metals, ceramics, and semiconductors

    Monitor the progress and results of each trial and optimize process parameters to meet quality standards

    Keep accurate records of trials, material usage, and machine downtime

    Troubleshoot process and equipment issues and make necessary adjustments to achieve desired project outcomes

    Work safely at all times, following all safety protocols and procedures

    Comply with all company policies and procedures

    Qualifications You Must Have

    • Proven hands-on experience with CNC machines

    • Experience with 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks, Siemens NX, Catia, etc.)

    • CNC programming experience (CAMWorks, Mastercam, NX CAM, etc.)

    • Mechanical aptitude

    • Attention to detail and safety focused

    • U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or Permanent U.S. Resident/Green Card) required.

    Qualifications We Prefer

    • 5-axis programming using NX CAM

    • Experience with FANUC CNC controls

    • Laser machining, laser materials processing, optics

    • Experience with ultrasonic machining

    • Fixture design and fabrication

    • Machining of ceramics, semiconductors

    • NX CAM Post-Processor writing and modification

    • Quality control experience

    Education & Experience:

    Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, or related field or equivalent experience.

    Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and less than 2 years prior relevant experience.Engineering/Other Technical Positions:

    Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

    The salary range for this role is 53,000 USD - 103,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
