  • Position Overview

    We are seeking an experienced Base Engine Engineer to join our team at Navistar! In this role you'll work in the Powertrain Systems Engineering organization, specifically the Base Engine Development team located at Navistar Powertrain in Huntsville, Alabama. This role carries many various responsibilities: New part & system development, change management with our sister brands, problem solving and implementing solutions to complex and high risk engineering issues. This role is also highly cross functional where you will be part of broader teams in different departments spread at various locations around the world.

    Responsibilities

    • Change management coordination within various Traton brands (Navistar, Scania, MAN & VW Truck & Bus)

    • CAD Model and print creation/release in NX/Team Center

    • Creating Component and System Design Requirements Documents (DRD's)

    • Organizing and creating Bills Of Materials (BOMs) for large assemblies

    • Support issue resolutions using rigorous problem-solving practices

    • Design, develop and implement validation tests on engines and full vehicles.

    • Participation in Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA)

    • Completion of Component and System level Design Verification Plan and Reports (DVP&R)

    • Work within multiple proprietary software systems to track issues across al partner brands (Training provided).

    • Developing solutions to complex problems while maintaining the integrity of the product.

    • Development of internal and external engine components in conjunction with our Traton partners and suppliers.

    • Identify, troubleshoot, contain, and permanently correct engineering issues.

    • Provide engineering information by answering questions and requests.

    • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations

    • Assist with Compliance validation to Federal, State and local requirements

    • Work directly with Manufacturing, Materials, Quality, Purchasing and other Product Development Engineering groups worldwide across all Traton brands.

    • Support Manufacturing and plant goals of safety, quality, cost and continuous improvement.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

    OR

    • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science and will obtain degree prior to first day of employment

    Additional Requirements

    • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

    Desired Skills

    • Background in engine and/or engine component development

    • Experience in troubleshooting mechanical/electrical systems

    • MBA or MSME is a plus

    • Strong cross functional communication skills both written and verbal and relationship building (Must be able to work in a team environment)

    • Troubleshoot and solving significant, unique and complex problems

    • HIGH sense of urgency

    • Operating with minimal supervision in a complex environment
