  • Hopkins Athletics is a multidivisional department with 22 programs competing at the NCAA Division III level and two programs (men's and women's lacrosse) competing at the NCAA Division I level (BIG 10 Conference). The department also hosts a variety of robust recreational activities such as club sports, intramurals, and fitness programming.

    The Hopkins Department of Athletics & Recreation seeks an innovative and forward-thinking Coordinator of Experiential Education.     The Coordinator of Experiential Education assists in overseeing and managing the experiential education program at Johns Hopkins University. The program encompasses Outdoor Pursuits, the Johns Hopkins Outdoor Club, the Pre-Orientation program, climbing facilities and related clubs.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    • Assist with the hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation all EE Student Outdoor Instructors.

    • Assist with daily administration and logistics of the Experiential Education programs.

    • Help student instructors develop technical outdoor and leadership skills.

    • Assist with the design, coordination, and leading of training trips within the various specialties (Backpacking, Caving, Flatwater and Whitewater Canoeing, Climbing, Disc Golf, Mountain Biking, Sailing, Sea Kayaking, and Whitewater Kayaking).

    • Assist in goals and initiatives of the Office of Recreation.

    • Help direct the Outdoor Pre-Orientation program in August.

    • Continually evaluate program risk management and implement ongoing training.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    Key Relationships

    • The Coordinator of Experiential Education is directly supervised by the Assistant Director, of Experiential Education. T

    • his position has significant interactions with faculty and staff, students, alumni, and other outside constituencies.

    Physical Environment

    • Operates outdoors and in the wilderness.

    • General office, athletic facility, and campus environment.

    • The position will require work outside and in inclement weather.

    • Position involves sitting, movement, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds in coaching and training situations.

    • Computer usage involving repetitive and/or wrist motion is required.

    • The position will be a full-time, fiscal year appointment, with frequent evening and weekend work required throughout the year with those dates determined by a supervisor.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in a related field required.

    • Wilderness First Responder certification or higher.

    • Valid driver's license.

    • One to two years of professional experience.

    • Strong organizational and logistics management skills.

    • Experience leading and managing groups outdoors.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master's Degree in Experiential Education or a related field preferred.

    • Strongly preferred experience in, flatwater and whitewater canoeing, whitewater kayaking, standup paddle boarding.

    • Professional Outdoor Certifications in program specialties such as, Sea Kayaking, Climbing, Mountain Biking, Backpacking, Climbing Wall, Whitewater Kayaking and Whitewater Canoeing (ACA, BCU, AMGA, CWA, PCIA, IMBA).
