  • Summary:

    Reporting directly to Amentum's Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) Senior Program Manager (SPM), the Deputy Program Manager leads, manages, and aids in planning, directing, controlling, and monitoring assigned operational activities; managing day-to-day ASC project operational and support activities; participating in customer-directed and PMO-directed meetings; and may serve as a secondary point of contact for the customer in the absence or at the direction of the SPM.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Manages Amentum's operations in Antarctica, reporting directly to the Amentum Senior Program Manager.

    • Manages, supervises, and coaches OCONUS and CONUS ASC personnel.

    • Provides updates and direction to subordinates and teams via weekly team meetings.

    • Acts as the Amentum lead in reviewing, coordinating, and allocating resources and facilitating conflicting demands across multiple operational departments for sustaining work.

    • Ensures continuity of support during Amentum seasonal operational personnel changes.

    • In conjunction with Safety personnel, supports workplace safety via assisting operational personnel with filling out and editing safety documents and applying lessons learned.

    • Reviews, edits, provides technical expertise, and approval for reports related to all ASC support activities prior to their submittal to the customer.

    • Assists in the development and roll-out of leadership trainings on various safety, developmental, and process improvement topics.

    • Assesses work processes and develops initiatives to improve efficiency, cost savings, scheduling, error reductions, and improvements in quality or safety.

    • Participates in corporate business development activities as needed or directed.

    • Works with Human Resources to promptly address personnel issues.

    • Participates in Safety Incident Review Board (IRB) Meetings.

    • Performs other duties as required to support the customer and team on the ASC.

    Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:

    • Ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Ideal candidates will have at least twelve (12) years of relevant operations management experience. An additional 4 years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.

    • Must have previous experience in deployed supervisory roles for remote and complex operations with least seven (7) years of experience in supervision or management of employees.

    Expected Skills and Competencies:

    • Strong organizational and critical-thinking skills.

    • Must demonstrate clear written and public communication skills.

    • Must be highly proficient in the use all Microsoft Office suite programs.

    • Holding teams accountable to meet or exceed their goals in a safe manner.

    Preferred:

    • Experience and competency in the USAP information technology systems, as well as proprietary software such as Maximo, PolarIce, and Pipeline.

    • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.

    Physical and/or Other Requirements :

    • Willingness and ability to periodically deploy to Antarctica for extended periods.

    • Successful clearance of the Medical and Dental Physical Qualifications (PQ) required by the NSF in order to deploy to Antarctica.

    • Successful clearance the pre-employment drug screening and background check process.

    • Successful completion and clearance of the Federal Background Check required by the NSF.

    • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.

    • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.

    • When deployed, all employees on ice must participate in community programs, such as "house-mouse" (chores), "daisy-picking" (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.

    • Valid Driver's License issued in the United States.
