  • The Director of Business Development has full responsibility over the Business Development organization. This specific role will be focused on Specialty Coffee and responsible for securing profitable new business within and leading a team of Business Development Managers.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide leadership and guidance to the Farmer Brothers business development organization.

    • Demonstrate the values of accountability, inclusion, collaboration, communication, and integrity in actions.

    • Lead the organization to set and exceed aggressive growth targets to ensure company growth outpaces growth of the category and meets sales goals.

    • Continually assesses the organizational design and systems to ensure strategies and a structure that will drive efficiency, effectiveness, and agility.

    • Lead a cross-functional team and generate strong profit growth consistently.

    • Make swift decisions in a volatile commodity category.

    • Provide sales training and guidance to the Business Development team and ensure the team has the best possible tools and direction to succeed.

    • Provide clear direction and objectives and ensure team members are accountable for meeting expectations.

    • Participate in the recruitment process as required to ensure the acquisition of the best talent. Proactively identifies and guides the development of internal talent for key jobs company-wide.

    • Assist in the growth and promotions of qualified individuals. Actively participates in the succession planning process.

    • Work cross functionally with other departments in the company from supply chain to logistics and marketing etc.

    • Ensure that the needs of the customers and the field team are heard in these cross functional environments.

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelors Degree of Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field required, graduate degree preferred

    • Minimum of 10 years of Sales and account management experience with demonstrated experience in channel management.

    • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing a team of direct reports

    • 1 year of preferred previous experience interacting with national or key accounts

    • 1 year of preferred experience in coffee sales.

    • Experience and track-record of success in customer business management with key national/ regional customers in channel sectors.

    • Able to take broad thinking around business issues and apply to company strategies.

    • Proficient in operating Windows and associated Microsoft Office applications, including: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc...
