    Summary:

    The Director of Practice Operations reports to the Chief Administrative Officer of the Neurosciences Service Line. Under the CAO's direction, the Director oversees practice operations and the implementation of policies and procedures; provides direction to practice administrators, managers, nursing leaders, and performance improvement leadership to ensure safe, welcoming and effective delivery of patient care; sets goals and monitors results to assure that service line, department and organizational objectives and operating requirements are met and in line with the goals and mission of the organization; and is responsible for the development, design, operation, and improvement of systems to meet goals and function efficiently and effectively. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and ICARE values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

    Responsibilities:

    Leadership

    1. Fosters a culture that supports the Rush mission, vision, and values.

    2. Promotes a work environment that encourages staff involvement and input, assists employees to develop and contribute to the organization, and applies human resource policies fairly and consistently.

    3. Functions as a positive, creative and effective leader, taking an active role in performance improvement activities and implementation of new programs.

    4. Leads multidisciplinary teams in the development of policies that advance service line consistency and equity; and which support a coordinated and seamless approach to care delivery.

    5. Develops innovative initiatives to enhance internal efficiency and achieve measurable and sustainable results.

    6. Identifies barriers to successful achievement of goals and leads efforts to effect needed change.

    7. Provides strategic and operational planning guidance to service line leadership, and assures that required infrastructure, staffing, resources, and internal processes are in place to achieve the growth, access, and quality goals of the service line.

    8. Establishes and maintains excellent working relationships with key leaders throughout the medical center in support of the neurosciences service line.

    9. Continuously invests in personal and professional growth, education and development and remains current on all matters relating to high-quality job performance at Rush

    Management

    1. In conjunction with the service line leadership, mentors and coaches managers, oversees their ongoing development, actively works to promote and recognize excellent performance, and identifies potential new leadership talent.

    2. Sets goals and establishes individual performance expectations for direct reports and regularly evaluates their performance against organizational objectives.

    3. Works with managers to assure their subordinates set and achieve goals consistent with expectations.

    4. Represents the interests of the neurosciences service line in the implementation of technology solutions to support the safe, effective, patient centered, and efficient delivery of patient care.

    5. Ensure staff perform to the highest level of their expertise.

    6. Works with nursing leaders in the neurosciences service line to define administrative structure, and implement across the enterprise.

    Quality

    1. Collaborates with physician and administrative leaders to develop and implement practice service standards that enhance the patient experience and support organizational goals.

    2. Assures the service line's compliance with Rush policies and procedures, conformity to governmental, regulatory, and accreditation guidelines, and achievement of meaningful use requirements.

    3. Measures and supports adoption of key nursing clinical indicators through the development and implementation of nursing policies, procedures, protocols, expectations, competencies, and standards of nursing practice.

    4. Implements leading edge care delivery models and infrastructure

    5. Practice Operations

    6. Partner with the service line leadership to ensure effective and efficient operations and fiscal viability.

    7. Develops, administers, and coordinates operational plans, objectives, and policies in accordance with Rush goals, objectives, and performance standards.

    8. Participates in the design and development of new or expanded services and programs; implements new programs as required.

    9. Operationalizes service line strategies, goals, and policies. Defines performance measures, monitors on a regular basis, and communicates results.

    10. Plans, develops, and implements specific programs, processes, policies, and methods to achieve access, growth, and productivity targets. Defines performance measures, monitors on a regular basis, and communicates results.

    11. Centralizes and manages selected functions and activities in a manner that drives efficiency, accuracy, and successful operations.

    12. Implements strategies around demand/capacity management and referring physician strategies.

    13. Defines staffing models for each disease site to support smooth operations, productivity, safe clinical care, appropriate provider support, and the patient friendly provision of services.

    14. Lead efforts in the hiring, evaluation and supervision of the activities of practice administrators and managers of the service line responsible for the day to day operations, assuring that service line goals are achieved.

    15. Participates in the effectual integration of business and clinical systems and processes to ensure improved revenue capture and flow.

    16. Works with the CAO and Director of Finance in the preparation and management of budgets, monitoring of monthly financial statements, and takes corrective actions as required.

    17. Responsible for revenue maximization through collection of co-pays, acceptance of participating health plans and proper coding.

    18. Responsible for cost containment through FTE control, supply management and medication inventory.

    Required Job Qualifications:

    • Master's degree with 10 years progressive health care leadership experience.

    • Practice management experience.

    • Demonstrated executive leadership capability, relationship development, financial and analytic skills and business acumen.

    • Strategic planning knowledge and experience.

    • Ability to promote growth of services through business development and to develop, present, implement, manage, and maintain new, meaningful and effective programs/services.

    • Ability to lead and manage projects including selecting, developing, motivating and retaining people to support the clinical and financial objectives of the organization.

    • Personal characteristics which include versatility, flexibility, enthusiasm, effective interpersonal and communication skills, and excellent writing skills.

    • Evidence of a management style which emphasizes collegiality, teamwork, participation and communication.

    • Leadership skills characterized as one who possesses a broad vision of the future of the health care industry, sensitivity to the values and expectations of physicians, management, employee, patient and family, and community constituencies.

    • Proven ability to successfully handle multiple complex projects and meet all deadlines.

    • Willingness and ability to delegate responsibility to the appropriate members of the RUMG team, allowing them the room to identify ways and means to accomplish specific goals and objectives while maintaining accountability to deliver solutions in a timely manner.

    • Success in leading high performing teams; a strong team player. A demonstrated track record of leading people and getting results through others.
