Electrical Systems Engineer

Description

• Work closely with the product managers and other cross-functional stakeholders to translate business requirements into well-designed, implemented, and documented solutions. - Establish functional requirements and performance targets for electrical machine systems. - Develop new ideas/hypotheses, conduct quick Proofs-of-Concept (POCs) to validate them and de-risk development. - Work as part of a cross-functional team to execute complex engineering projects. - Hold and participate in Design Reviews. - Technical design of machine control systems to solve application challenges. Focus on requirements, interfaces, and reuse/maintenance of solutions. - Collaborate with internal teams, vendors and design services teams to implement and maintain solutions. - Understanding of electrical system elements and development process, including: wiring harnesses, printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), embedded software, and regulatory testing (UL, IEC, EMC, ESD, EFT). - Applying applicable industry standards and ensuring design compliance. - Evaluating design risk using tools like DFMEA and HARA. - In partnership with the mechanical design team, generate system design innovations that deliver value to the customer. May be working multiple projects simultaneously. - Problem solving and root cause analysis. - Experience participating in electrical design activities including cost and schedule metrics. - Participation in technical teams working through structured problem solving. - Ability to adapt and drive progress when design aspects are not fully defined or evolve over time.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• BS in Electrical, Software, or Computer Engineering with 7+ years of experience. - Proven track-record in electrical architecture design and implementation in a technical leadership role. Hands-on experience building & deploying control solutions incorporating new and legacy systems. - Experience with electrical systems integration, including: harnessing, connectors, cable routing, mechanical protection (sleeving), and electrical protection (fuses, circuit breakers). - Prior electric vehicle electrical system design highly desirable. - Experience working on cross-functional teams (Mechanical, Hardware, Systems, Software, Production, Supply Chain, etc.). - Experience in requirements decomposition, development, authoring, and verification. Experience with requirements management tools and interface control documentation. - Experience de-risking complicated projects by breaking them into development milestones and proof-of-concept efforts. - Experience with task management tools and defect tracking tools (Jira). - Ability to present complex technical information to internal and external stakeholders. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: - Experience in physical systems modeling, analysis, and simulation using tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, MathCad, or PSpice. - Expertise in control system modeling, design, and verification using tools such as MATLAB and Simulink. - Experience with communication interfaces and networks including CAN, RS-232, Ethernet, and USB. - Experience with mechanical design software basic functionality (Solidworks). - Power electronics, power systems, and closed loop control systems experience preferred.
