Government Accounting

Description

Robert Half seeking a government accountant for our client. You will be responsible for managing financial transactions, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations within the government sector. This role involves analyzing financial data, monitoring budgets, and providing recommendations for improving financial processes and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries. Monitor cash flow and budgetary expenditures to ensure financial stability and compliance with government regulations.

• Prepare financial statements, reports, and forecasts for government agencies, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies. Ensure timely and accurate submission of financial information.

• Assist in the development of annual budgets and long-term financial plans. Monitor budget variances and provide analysis to support decision-making processes.

• Ensure compliance with government accounting standards, regulations, and reporting requirements. Stay updated on changes to accounting rules and regulations.

• Coordinate and participate in internal and external audits. Prepare audit schedules, respond to audit inquiries, and implement audit recommendations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. CPA certification preferred.

• Previous experience in government accounting or public sector finance.

• Strong understanding of government accounting principles, regulations, and compliance requirements.

• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Experience with government accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is a plus.

• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
