    Job Description:

Parsons is seeking a sharp Hardware/ Software Engineer to support a Robotics/Intelligent Systems Research effort for our US Army DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory Customer at Adelphi and Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.

In this role you will be supporting software and hardware integration for proof-of-concept demonstrations, and performance evaluation of autonomous behaviors on individual and teams of ground robotic platforms. In addition, you will be supporting robotics research for embodied systems requires integration with the physical form and respecting the constraints (e.g. limitations on motion, force, sensing, communication, computation, etc.) which come with said platforms.

This position will specifically focus on developing implementations of and executing experiments involving emerging techniques in artificial intelligence for mobile robots. The work is in line with the Army Research Lab mission of developing fully autonomous maneuver for robotic systems operating in complex, unstructured environments. The candidate is expected to deploy the ARL autonomy software stack onto robots and integrate software and hardware for autonomous missions. This will include working with engineers and technicians to integrate sensors and compute into the hardware stack, devise experiment plans, execute experiments, analyze data, and report on results.

    What You'll Be Doing :

    • Perform system architecture, design, and integration for a full mobile robot autonomy software stack that spans perception, mapping and localization, navigation, and control as well as higher-level intelligence functionality, e.g., map exploration.

    • Integrate new results from internal and university research efforts into ARL's core robotics and autonomy software stacks. Help transition new capabilities from prototype to field testing on ARL platforms.

    • Identify and integrate new sensor and compute components in software.

    • Design, execute, and support fundamental research experiments in the areas of robotics and autonomy. Field experiments take place in controlled but sometimes austere environments like desert and forest terrain.

    • Collaborate with other ARL employees and extramural collaborators (e.g., academic research groups) to refactor, optimize, and develop and execute verification and validation test processes for prototype software algorithms.

    • Prepare and/or present publications and written documents summarizing efforts for ARL staff, universities, private corporations, research institutes, national laboratories, other Government research centers, or open literature forums.

    • Document code and contribute to updating documentation across the autonomy software stacks as needed to support current and future research directions and outcomes.

What Required Skills You'll Bring :

    • No security clearance required to start, but you must be a U.S. Citizenship with the willingness and ability to obtain and/or maintain a DoD Secret Clearance

    • BS with +5 years of experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or robotics-related field.

    • Experience developing software in a Linux environment, using Git for version control, and using Docker for containerization.

    • Fluency in C/C++ and Python.

    • Experience designing, integrating, diagnosing, integrating, and repairing robotics hardware (sensors, computers, and actuators).

    • Experience with Robotics Operating System (ROS1, ROS2) and simulation environments (Unity preferred).

    • Experience with system-level design and system integration.

What Skills Would be Nice to Have

    • MS in Comp Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or robotics-related field.

    • Experience field testing of mobile robot hardware and systems.

    • Experience analyzing autonomy data to draw conclusions and make decisions

    • Experience with various sensor technologies and systems
