What You Will Do

This position is for a Health Physicist 1/2 who will be part of the Technical and Regulatory Programs (TARP) Team within the Radiation Protection Programs Group (RP-PROG). The successful candidate will:

• Serve in a supporting role representing the RP-PROG Procedures team in the development, revision, and implementation of Radiation Protection procedures, policies, and technical basis documents within the Radiation Protection Division;

• Ensure that radiation protection principles are incorporated into policies and procedures in order to protect workers, the public, and the environment;

• Provide radiological technical support to field Health Physics personnel and other LANL customers;

• Independently assess risk and vulnerabilities within the Radiation Protection Program and identify solutions.

• Conduct and support RP assessments and audits.

• Assist the RP Software and Applications lead in the creation, administration, and user support of the RP-PROG software application suite.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

• Experience in procedural development to include policy documents and radiation protection instrumentation;

• Knowledge of health physics principles and theories, and their operational application;

• Experience in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting radiological safety/protection;

• Ability to conceptualize and communicate fundamental elements of radiological safety/protection to both technical and non-technical personnel;

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

• Working knowledge of legal requirements and regulations affecting radiological safety/protection.

Education/Experience at lower level:

Bachelor's Degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Physical Science, and 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at higher level:

Bachelor's Degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Physical Science, and 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF software products

• Database and/or software application development knowledge or experience

• Working knowledge of Health Physics in plutonium and accelerator facilities

• MS in Health Physics, Radiation Protection or related field

• ABHP certification or progress towards an ABHP certification

• Ability to obtain a Q clearance

Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Reading vision; Ability to speak; Ability to hear in a normal range (500 to 3000 htz).

Work Environment: Use of protective clothing, including safety glasses and radiological anti-contamination clothing.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (~~~) . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 (~~~) for additional information.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
