  • Description

    We are currently seeking a dedicated and certified Inpatient Medical Coder with 2-5 years of experience. Their primary responsibility will be to review and analyze medical documentation, translate patient information into alphanumeric codes, and submit accurate code-based claims for reimbursement purposes.

    Responsibilities

    • Review and interpret medical information in patient records accurately.

    • Translate medical procedures, physician diagnoses, and symptoms into coded form.

    • Apply appropriate diagnostic codes to medical records according to rules and regulations.

    • Secure provider signatures to finalize patient records.

    • Ensure codes follow insurance and legal requirements to include compliance with HIPAA regulations.

    • Interact with billing and insurance departments to streamline the process of claim submission.

    • Help in training other coders and assist in auditing the work performed by junior coders.

    • Ensure all assigned codes meet required level of service, severity of illness, and risk.

    • Communicate with clinical staff when necessary regarding missing patient information and documentation.

    • Stay updated with current rules, regulations, and trends in medical coding.

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    • 2-5 years of experience as a medical coder, preferably in an inpatient healthcare setting.

    • Certification from the AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders) or AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) is required.

    • Proficient in ICD-10-CM and CPT coding systems. Experience in Chartmax and Allscripts is a plus!

    • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.

    • Solid understanding of health records and data integrity controls.

    • Demonstrable ability to maintain updated knowledge of coding guidelines and regulatory changes.

    • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.

    • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

    • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

    Note: An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or a similar field is preferred but not essential.
