    The Managing Director of Facilities is part of the leadership team of the Corporate Real Estate (CRE) department, a subset of our broader Corporate and Government Affairs division. In addition to leading a team of project managers to deliver planning, design, and construction projects at American's hubs and stations on time and on budget, this role will serve as American's technical representative on large airport-manage projects and support the Operations team on facility issues.

    This position plays a critical role supporting American's network strategy and operational performance. Therefore, this role requires an experienced and forward-thinking leader to implement American Airlines' vision for our facilities.

    What you'll do

    • Work with user groups and CRE Properties to define project scope and requirements. Support Procurement on bidding and contracting, and collaborate with internal sponsors, Procurement, and Finance to obtain project funding

    • Work with airports to secure permits and other necessary approvals

    • Prepare annual capital plan for CRE sponsored projects within their portfolio and provide ROMs for facilities projects sponsored by other departments

    • Support user groups and Tech Ops Facilities Maintenance on airport facility issues to protect operations

    • Collaborate with CRE Properties and provide technical expertise in monitoring capital projects managed by airports, focusing on scope, budget, and schedule

    • Support CRE Properties on internal and external alignment regarding airport master plans, especially for American's hubs

    • Serve as Facilities expert on various internal and external committees and councils, such as the Accessibility Council

    • Maintain and periodically update American's space standards and furniture standards

    All you'll need for success

    • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity

    • Bachelor's degree in relevant field and/or equivalent experience/training; Advanced Degree preferred

    • 10 years of progressive leadership experience managing teams across a variety of related disciplines, including architecture, planning, engineering, and construction management

    • Extensive experience leading one or more airport-based (re)development programs, ideally in a portfolio setting with oversight for multiple parallel projects

    • Experienced in large and complex project management, requiring attention to detail and with the suite of tools and approaches associated with such efforts

    • Strong working knowledge of the design principles and practices relating to the maintenance and construction of airport buildings and equipment

    • Demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning and project management

    • Well experienced in multi-constituent management and diplomacy across a variety of organizations, including airport organizations, providers of third-party services, the airline community, and the Federal Aviation Administration

    • Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines relating to design, construction, facilities and operations of a commercial airport

    • Ability to influence others through outstanding interpersonal and negotiation skills

    • Ability to think strategically, negotiate skillfully, digest complex details, and use sound judgment and initiative in making decisions

    • Appreciates and is appropriately attuned and sensitive to the political dimensions of airport development

    • Ability to review and understand difficult and complex construction/cost estimates, design documents and specifications

    • Significant exposure to the financial aspects of facility development programs and worked closely with financial staffs to assess and finance such projects

    • Experienced in public-private sector interface, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with both groups

    • Strong track record of developing and managing effective working relationships with elected officials, department managers, employees, third-party providers, officials and employees of other agencies, as well as the general public

    • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with ability to interact effectively with all levels, both verbally and written
