    Job Description

    The Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for leading, directing, and providing technical expertise to ensure the reliability of all plant mechanical equipment in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. This role encompasses complete oversight of mechanical supervision, planning, and craftspeople. The superintendent ensures the workforce performs tasks safely and efficiently, focusing on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical equipment. Key responsibilities include:

    • Ensuring workforce safety and training.

    • Enhancing workforce efficiency.

    • Implementing precision equipment care practices to improve equipment reliability.

    This role is crucial for achieving operational objectives aimed at enhancing year-over-year reliability and is integral to the development and execution of the mill's repair and capital plan.

    Qualifications

    • Education: Bachelor's and/or Technical Degree and Training.

    • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years in manufacturing maintenance or operations.

    • Leadership: Strong leadership skills, acting as a change agent to drive organizational change.

    • Technical Expertise: Knowledge in mechanical reliability and precision maintenance practices.

    • Communication: Effective communication skills to educate and train all organizational levels.

    • Collaboration: Ability to forge effective relationships with peers and key managers.

    • Technical Knowledge: Maintenance of pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, material handling equipment, heavy equipment, cranes, paper machine rolls, and bearings. Specific knowledge of paper, pulp, and/or power manufacturing is highly beneficial.

    • Process Improvement: Proven success in implementing predictive and preventative maintenance programs.

    • Planning and Execution: Skilled in maintenance planning, scheduling, and executing outages.

    • Adaptability: Ability to handle ambiguity and changing customer needs.

    • Union Management: Experience in managing and collaborating in a union environment.

    • Workforce Development: Experience in developing and implementing training programs.

    • Barrier Removal: Ability to identify and overcome obstacles to improvement and change.

    • KPI Management: Effective management and measurement of progress using KPIs.

    • Reliability Improvement: Commitment to reducing reliability incidents and implementing sustainable systems for mechanical reliability improvement.
