    The CTRC Medical Assistant (MA)provides clinical and administrative support to nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals (Clinicians) working in the hospital-licensed clinics. Functions may include patient interviews, data collection, documentation in the medical record, exam room set-up, cleaning and preparation, ordering/stocking of medical supplies, and general administrative support. The CTRC MA may also perform non-invasive routine technical services under the supervision of a licensed physician, surgeon, or podiatrist who is on the premises. The CTRC MA functions within his/her scope of education/ certification not to exceed what is permitted by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center policies, procedures, and guidelines. Must have flexibility and ability to adapt to multiple specialty clinics.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Collects patient history and documents in EMR appropriately. Obtains all results (films, test) prior to patient visit.

    • Maintains timely patient flow and room availability. Assists patients with the completion of forms, as needed.

    • Performs clinical responsibilities such as taking vital signs, collecting lab specimens, performing EKGs, and records/documents patient records.

    • Conducts appropriate hand-offs or reporting processes as defined by program workflows and applicable policy.

    • Participates in the patient checkout process: facilitating follow-up tests, and referrals and may participate in obtaining prior authorizations to allow for timely scheduling of follow-up appointments to other providers. Maintains referral system and ensures accurate and timely follow-through with all referrals generated.

    • Prepares, and cleans exam/procedure room, and sets up appropriate supplies. Ensures equipment, forms, and educational materials are available and ready for use during visit/procedure. Maintains and monitors all equipment used for patient care and testing and reports discrepancies to the supervisor.

    • Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infection by complying with current CDC guidelines and CSMC Hospital Acquired Infection prevention policy.

    • Collects and prepares specimens and transports to the lab. Follows hospital policy for specimen labeling and logging.

    • Performs unit office procedures including all general administrative duties as required (i.e. scanning, filing, faxing, phones, courier duties, etc.).

    • Acts as a transporter for stable, non-acute patients for testing or treatment.

    Department Specific Responsibilities:

    • Appointment Scheduling; stock and transport of medications; Biological specimen shipping; Assist with new protocol activation.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • Vocational/Technical Diploma, graduate of an accredited medical assistant program, is required.

    License & Certification Requirements:

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association is required upon hire.

    • Certified Registered Medical Assistant certification is preferred upon hire.

    • Phlebotomy Certification CA (CPT-1) is required upon hire.

    Experience and Skills:

    • One (1) year minimum of Medical Assistant, medical office, ambulatory care facility, or medical group practice, is required.

    • Establishes effective working relationships with cross-functional team(s).

    • Cultivates and maintains strong customer relationships and rapport with stakeholders and/or client groups.

    • Ensures practices and procedures are inclusive of interpersonal and cultural diversity.
