    job purpose :

    A Packaging Operator sets up, changes over, operates and assists with operating the labeling, case packing, blow molding, and palletizing equipment. Observes the operation, ensures the manufactured products meet specifications, makes adjustments as necessary and tears down the equipment for cleaning. They feed various materials into the machines such as corrugate, film, labels, preforms and carriers. They clean the machines/lines within food processing requirements, trouble shoot, perform minor repairs and clear any jams that may occur.

    responsibilities:

    • Follow all safety, working, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) rules.

    • Reports to and follows the directions of the Production Supervisors.

    • Ability to safely operate moving equipment and make the appropriate adjustments to the process and equipment to manufacture a correctly, defect free, packaged case and labeled bottle.

    • Observe machine operations to ensure quality and conformity to specifications and standard operating procedures.

    • Inspect formed cases, shrink wrapped cases, labeled bottles, and bottles placed in carriers, verifying and adjusting the process and equipment to meet finished goods specifications.

    • Stop or reset machines when malfunctions occur, clear machine jams, and report malfunctions to a supervisor.

    • Supply packaging equipment with materials such as corrugate, shrink film, labels, carriers, stretch wrap and slip sheets.

    • Proactively monitor the production line, packers, conveyors, labelers and watches for problems such as pile-ups or jams. Efficiently clears jams and continues production.

    • Escalate issues in line with escalation procedure.

    • Count and record finished and rejected materials.

    • Clean the packaging equipment, coder, conveyors, labelers and surrounding areas. Maintain the entire packaging area in an audit ready condition during production.

    • Troubleshoot problems, perform minor repairs using the correct tools, oil and perform Preventive Maintenance on the packaging and labeling equipment.

    • Demonstrate monitoring skills, using visual observation of gages and listening to mechanical sounds to make sure the equipment is working properly.

    • Aid in the training of new personnel.

    • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

    skills/qualifications required:

    • A High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.

    • High School level verbal and written communication skills.

    • Basic computational skills required. Simple math and reasoning required.

    • Must be able to operate the equipment effectively after the appropriate break-in period.

    • Must possess or be able to obtain an Industrial Truck Operator License and understand line controls.

    Sitting/Standing/Walking/Lifting/Carrying: The Labeling/Bundling Operator stands throughout their shift. The Labeling/Bundling Operator walks on uneven concrete and tile surfaces.

    Pushing/Pulling/Bending/Stooping: The Labeling/Bundling Operator pushes/pulls rolls of labels onto labeler or stacking collapsed boxes on a pallet or recycle container. The Labeling/Bundling Operator pushes/pulls while using brooms, dust mops and brushes during cleanup duties. The Labeling/Bundling Operator bends and stoops occasionally throughout the workday for varying lengths of time.

    Squatting/Kneeling/Crawling/Twisting/Turning: The Labeling/Bundling Operator may squat to pick up product from the floor, or during various cleanup duties. Occasional slight twisting and turning at the waist when loading material, or when performing responsibilities.

    Climbing/Balancing/Reaching: The Labeling/Bundling Operator steps on and off the platforms and steps. The Labeling/Bundling Operator reaches below and/or above shoulder level when removing or adding boxes to a pallet, loading materials or dumping and climbs on ladders to access equipment.

    Grasping/Manipulation: Frequent use of the hands and fingers is required.     food safety requirements:

    • Notify supervision of any repairs or adjustments that are required that may affect product quality or food safety.

    • Understand, observe, and comply with the handling and usage of the color-coded container policy while in the Production Areas.

    • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company.

    • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.

    • Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system.

    • Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.

    • In the event of absence, another employee with the same skill level will assume the duties and responsibilities as required.
