  • The Center on Artificial Intelligence for Materials in Extreme Environments (CAIMEE) at Johns Hopkins University (JHU) invites applications for a Program Manager position. CAIMEE has a portfolio of sponsored research projects with a significant number requiring close collaboration with the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL). CAIMEE's research focus is on data generation from high-throughput experiments and computational modeling, to support artificial intelligence (AI) and data driven materials design. The center builds on the AI for Materials Design facility to generate high quantities of valuable application-relevant data for defense applications and other complex environments. CAIMEE will develop and implement AI and machine learning tools to evaluate materials and make actionable design decisions in the context of an automated system. CAIMEE resides within the Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute (HEMI) located on the Homewood campus of JHU. Additional information on HEMI is located at: ~~~/.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    • The Program Manager is responsible for providing programmatic, business, and administrative leadership for CAIMEE.

    • The position will report directly to the CAIMEE Director and will be supervised by the HEMI Senior Administrative Manager.

    Programmatic Management

    • Responsible for the overall program management of the CAIMEE which includes program planning, budgeting, contracting, sub awarding, and reporting.

    • Ensures CAIMEE is compliant with federal and university policies.

    • Works closely with CAIMEE funding agencies in the execution and maintenance of the CAIMEE agreements

    • Assists the CAIMEE director in proposal preparation and the development of annual program plans.

    • Implements CAIMEE initiatives as determined by the director.

    • Develops short- and long-range strategic ideas and plans to guide the growth of CAIMEE.

    • Identifies funding opportunities by attending workshops, conferences, and engaging with sponsoring agencies.

    • Assists Principal Investigators with the successful completion of their projects on time and on budget.

    • Coordinates with the facilities and building management to ensure CAIMEE has the appropriate space to execute the research, administrative, and collaborative activities.

    Business and Sponsored Management

    • Oversees fiscal management of a $14 million multi-year budget.

    • Acts as a point of contact for all grant-related questions and coordinates meetings with collaborators as required.

    • Works closely with HEMI business section to oversee annual budget planning and preparation, nancial analysis, projections, and reporting.

    • Provides assistance with proposal development, contract negotiation and contract compliance, as needed.

    • Ensures principal and co-investigators meet all contractual requirements for sponsored research projects.

    • Reviews and certifies sub awardee invoices.

    • Provides programmatic information in support of compliance and audit reviews.

    • Ensures timely responses for regular and ad hoc requests for information from funding agencies, WSE, and University administration.

    • Collects critical programmatic, workforce development, and collaborative data for all sponsored research projects.

    Administrative Management

    • Works closely with the HEMI communications office to promote CAIMEE, its programs, its accomplishments, and to provide greater external visibility.

    • Provide HEMI communications direction to develop persuasive and well-founded written materials to support these aims.

    • Lead editor for quarterly and annual reports to sponsoring agencies.

    • In coordination with HEMI communications, ensures the CAIMEE website is maintained and updated.

    • Assists in the development of content for internal and external communications to promote the accomplishments of CAIMEE.

    • Coordinates regular meetings with principal investigators, postdocs, students, and government collaborators on CAIMEE projects.

    • Plans, coordinates, and executes major programmatic reviews and events in support of center and sponsored research projects. Works closely with HEMI staff in the execution of these events.

    • Lead administrative coordinator for student internships and apprenticeships within the center.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree.

    • Five years related experience.

    • Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Ten years of progressively responsible professional-level programmatic, administrative, or business experience.

    Starting Salary Range: Min $64,000 - Max $112,200 Annually (Commensurate with experience)
