    Job Summary

    Marathon Petroleum Company LP's Martinez Renewable Fuels Facility is currently hiring a Project Engineer to lead engineering for projects. The Martinez Renewable Fuels Facility is one of the largest plants in the world dedicated to the production of liquid renewable fuels. The large facility was previously a petroleum refinery located in the East Bay region of California. An ongoing project is retooling the site to produce 730 million gallons per year of renewable fuels to help support California's low carbon future.

    This assignment is an excellent opportunity to work in a large renewable fuels plant. The position's main role is to provide project leadership for several small and medium sized projects. This individual will work in the Engineering Department and be assigned to cross-functional teams to manage projects that improve safety & reliability and increase performance of existing equipment at the plant. The job is located at the plant in Martinez, CA with a small amount of travel (<10%) to visit engineering contractors and equipment suppliers. The position will be on-site, but the work schedule can be a normal 5x8s, a 4/1 hybrid schedule (1 day remote), or 9/80 schedule.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide project leadership and technical direction through all phases of a project. These phases include initial development of ideas, conceptual evaluation, feasibility studies, definition engineering, detailed design, construction, and safe startup of the project.

    • Apply project management and engineering skills and knowledge in all phases of projects from conception to closeout.

    • Manage multiple projects and assignments in a timely, safe, and cost-effective manner.

    • Interact with project team members and key stakeholders to ensure that project scope is clearly defined and meets the requirements of the end users.

    • Develop decision support packages (DSPs) for assigned projects, which include a project's objective, scope, schedule, benefits/justification, options, and costs.

    • Present DSPs to management to obtain approval and funding.

    • Manage and provide direction to engineering contractors and equipment vendors.

    • Initiate and participate in management of change (MOC) reviews for applicable projects.

    • Review design drawings, construction packages, and specifications and coordinate input from stakeholders.

    • Participate in technical reviews with operations, construction, engineering firms and equipment suppliers.

    • Ensure assigned projects comply with all applicable Marathon and other refining industry specifications and standards.

    • Collaborate with project controls for project scheduling, estimating, cost management and monthly updates to the cost forecast.

    • Coordinate with procurement in development of contracting plan including engineering services and equipment sourcing.

    • Maintain accurate and current project documentation.

    • Support construction and commissioning of assigned projects through field walks, responding to RFI, and approving installations before turning over to operations.

    • Provide documentation and support to Operations and Maintenance department so they can develop start-up manuals, operating and maintenance procedures, and equipment training.

    Education, Experience and Skills

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution is required. ( Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date .)

    • Must have a minimum 5 years of post-degree engineering experience in the refining, petrochemical, or manufacturing industries is required.

    • Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.

    • Must be able to interface with other departments in the plant, engineering contractors, equipment vendors, and construction contractors.

    • Must be self-directed and motivated.

    • Must have a good understanding of project management and the types of equipment that are typical to a refinery or petrochemical plant.

    • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.

    • Must have a valid driver's license. (MPC determines valid status.)

    • Must be able to obtain a TWIC Card.

    • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.

    • Travel Requirement is 10%.
