  • Position Overview: VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center is seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) to join our dynamic neurology department. As an integral member of our team, you will provide exceptional care to patients with neurological conditions under the guidance of our board-certified veterinary neurologist. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art facility alongside a dedicated team of professionals committed to advancing veterinary medicine.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Patient Care: Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with neurological disorders, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and assisting with diagnostic procedures such as MRI scans, CT scans, and electroencephalograms (EEGs).

    2. Surgical Assistance: Assist the veterinary neurologist during surgical procedures, including patient preparation, and surgical instrument handling.

    3. Anesthesia Skills: Proficient with anesthesia monitoring and associated skills, such as intubation, understanding of pharmacology, multiparameter monitoring, running CRI's and TIVA and anesthetizing a range of ASA grades.

    4. Diagnostic Imaging : Proficiently operate diagnostic imaging equipment and assist with the positioning of patients for imaging studies, ensuring high-quality images for accurate diagnosis.

    5. Client Communication: Communicate effectively with pet owners, providing updates on their pet's condition, explaining treatment plans, and offering guidance on post-operative care and home management of neurological conditions.

    6. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate medical records, including patient charts, treatment plans, and surgical logs, in compliance with hospital protocols and regulatory standards.

    7. Collaboration: Collaborate closely with other members of the veterinary team, including veterinarians, veterinary assistants, and support staff, to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for patients.

    8. Continuing Education: Stay current with advancements in veterinary neurology by participating in continuing education opportunities, workshops, and conferences.

    Qualifications:

    • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license: Must be licensed as a Registered Veterinary Technician in the state of California.

    • Experience: Knowledge of the techniques associated with advanced neurology care of veterinary patients is preferred, but not required

    • Technical Skills: Proficiency in veterinary nursing skills, including strong skill in phlebotomy, catheter placement, urinary catheter placement and care, anesthesia management and monitoring, and patient handling. Experience with diagnostic imaging (MRI, CT) is a plus.

    • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, colleagues, and other members of the healthcare team.
