    Job Description

    Primary Purpose of Role

    The Factory Controls Engineering department develops technical & design specifications for equipment, production tests, and oversees the implementation of new equipment to ensure the business unit's requirements are met and follow the company's standards.

    The Robot Controls Engineer will support all Allison operations' maintenance, quality, and production personnel in the troubleshooting of functional problems and guide maintenance activities to eliminate functionality issues of equipment and systems throughout the entire company, including worldwide facilities. The engineer will design and guide installation activities to retrofit and improve functionality of existing equipment and systems. The engineer will apply Allison's specifications which are based on ISO-10218/ANSI-RIA R15 standards for robotic/automation cells and ensure integration is successful.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Aid in the review and update of system specifications to ensure that new equipment meets business requirements.

    • Aid in reviewing machine quotes, prints, approval drawings, and control logic programming to ensure adherence to specifications and process requirements.

    • Participate in equipment build process and runoffs to ensure proper system function and adherence to specifications.

    • Aid in creating, writing, and support of existing robot programs.

    • Aid in creating, writing, and optimizing existing robot guiding vision programs.

    • Optimize PLC and HMI programs.

    • Make program changes to improve efficiency of current processes.

    • Assist in developing, procuring, implementing, and support infrastructure systems that will be used to communicate between factory floor equipment and business systems.

    • Support the training of peer engineers, plant maintenance, quality, and production personnel responsible for supporting equipment operations.

    • Ensures processes and procedures are safe and efficient work being is being performed.

    • Based on business need a candidate will assist, support and/or perform other job functions within department.

    • Support continuous improvement activities within manufacturing processes.

    • Investigate system trends and suggest modifications that provide business benefit.

    Competencies & Behaviors:

    • Good understanding of DCS as applied to both cell guarding and operator interaction/collaborative work zones.

    • Good interpersonal oral and written communications skills.

    • Ability to use PC and job-related software/programs for programming, design, and documentation.

    • Ability to diagnose/troubleshoot any controls system when required, regardless of having prior knowledge or experience.

    • Ability to train operators and qualified skilled trades personnel.

    • Project management skills and experience involving complex projects.

    • Willingness to be on call on a rotational basis; approximately 3-5 weekends a year.

    • Willingness to work occasional weekends and holidays as project work requires.

    Qualifications

    Required :

    Associate or bachelor's degree: Electrical Engineering/Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering Technology, Robotics Engineering Technology, Mechatronics Engineering Technology, or equivalent work experience required.

    Experience

    Required

    • 3 + years of working experience with robotic cell integration and programming.

    • Extensive experience with Fanuc robotics programming.

    • Experience with Allen-Bradley PAC/PLC control systems.

    • Experience with programming of Allen-Bradley HMIs

    • Experience with device communication networks including Allen-Bradley DH+, Ethernet IP, etc.
