    We are currently looking for a Senior Scientist IV for our Alameda, CA facility.

    The Opportunity

    This position is an onsite opportunity in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division. We are helping people with Diabetes lead healthier, happier lives.     This is an onsite daily opportunity in Alameda, CA.

    What You'll Do

    Lead and conduct applied research into improved technology for the continuous in-vivo measurement of various analytes through design, construction and characterization of prototype devices and/or design and execution of laboratory experiments and clinical studies.

    Biomedical research scientist. Responsible for designing and evaluating prototype devices, laboratory studies and clinical studies to assess new technology for the continuous in-vivo measurement of various analytes.

    Essential functions

    • Provide technical leadership to ongoing development of Abbott Diabetes Care prototype continuous in-vivo sensors and products.

    • Devise and execute laboratory experiments and/or clinical studies to evaluate changes and improvements in new prototype sensors as well as existing products.

    • Support hardware/software development of prototype electronics for novel in-vivo electrochemical measurement techniques. Engage with outside vendors to further electronics and/or software development.

    • Support biocompatibility testing of various sensor components. Troubleshoot biocompatibility results to alter sensor composition.

    • Engage with outside vendors to source biologics as well as polymeric membrane materials.

    • Hire and manage junior and senior staff Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and performing other duties as assigned by management

    Experience/Education You'll Bring

    Required

    BA or BS in Physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, biology, biomedical engineering, materials science and/or other relevant scientific disciplines. MS or Ph.D. preferred.

    Preferred

    • Ph. D. plus 7 years, or MS plus 10 years, or BA/BS plus 14 years experience in advanced research in industrial or academic setting.

    • Laboratory technique consistent with a skilled, experienced professional.

    • Capable of literature research and current in the appropriate literature of his/her field of expertise.

    • Able to present orally and in writing at a professional level.

    • Able to perform proficiently under up-to-date regulatory requirements.

    • Electrochemical sensor development.

    • Biocompatibility of implanted devices.

    • Hardware/software development for on-body electrochemical instrumentation.

    • Membrane polymers for electrochemical sensors.

    The base pay for this position is $144,100.00 - $288,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
