    Job Description

    Summary/Objective:

    The Senior Factory Controls Engineer develops technical & design specifications and oversees the implementation of new equipment to ensure the business unit's requirements are met and follow the company's standards. The engineer will support operations' maintenance, quality, and production personnel in the troubleshooting of functional problems and guide maintenance activities to eliminate functionality issues of equipment and systems throughout the entire company, including worldwide facilities. The engineer will design and guide installation activities to retrofit and improve functionality of existing equipment and systems.

    Essential Functions

    • Review and update system specifications to ensure that new equipment meets business requirements.

    • Review machine quotes, prints, approval drawings, and control logic programming to ensure alignment to specifications and process requirements.

    • Participate in equipment build process and runoffs to ensure proper system function and alignment to specifications.

    • Develop, procure, implement, and support system infrastructure that will be used to communicate between factory floor equipment and business systems.

    • Support the training of operations' maintenance, quality, and production personnel responsible for supporting equipment.

    • Support continuous improvement activities within the fabrication processes.

    • Investigate system trends and suggest modifications that provide business benefit.

    • Strong background in Siemens and/or Fanuc Control Systems (or others) with working knowledge of old and new CNC systems.

    • Ability to power up and solve a wide variety of machine tool control problems.

    • Advanced level of machine tool control programming ability and knowledge.

    • Working knowledge of machine tool applications.

    • Strong working knowledge of analog and digital servo systems.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Bachelor or Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience required.

    • Willingness to work occasional weekends and holidays as project work requires.

    • Willingness to be on call on a rotational basis.

    Experience

    Required

    • 5+ years' experience as an Engineer in a manufacturing environment.

    • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, both in troubleshooting and design.

    • Experience with the development, implementation, and support of industrial control systems that perform control, monitoring, data acquisition, logging, and alarming functions.

    • Experience with Allen-Bradley PAC/PLC control systems.

    • Experience with Siemens PAC, PLC/CNC controls systems.

    • Experience with Fanuc CNC controls systems.

    • Experience with programming of Allen-Bradley HMIs.

    • Experience with device communication networks including Allen-Bradley DH+, DeviceNet, RIO, Ethernet IP, etc.

    • Experience monitoring & controlling capital budgets.

    Preferred

    • 7+ years experience as an Engineer in a manufacturing environment.

    • Basic experience with leak testing methodologies and systems.

    • Experience with large drive systems, specifically Allen-Bradley and Unico.

    • Experience with Allen-Bradley/Cisco industrial networking.

    • Experience with Fanuc and Siemens CNC Control Systems.

    • Experience with Fanuc robotics programming.

    • Experience with vision systems used in manufacturing processes.

    • RFID system experience, specifically Balluff.

    • Knowledge of best practices in automotive and equipment manufacturing.

    • Familiar with lean manufacturing principles for machining and assembly operations.

    Skills/Competencies:

    Required

    • Ability to work multi-functionally across Plant operations.

    • Strong understanding of Allen-Bradley, Fanuc, & Siemens control systems.

    • Ability to organize and balance multiple priorities.

    • Project management skills and experience involving complex projects.

    • Ability to diagnose/troubleshoot any controls system when required, regardless of having prior knowledge or experience.
