  • The Brattle Group, a privately held, global economics consulting firm, is looking for a Staff Accountant to join our Boston, MA office. The person in this position will be responsible for various accounting activities and reconciliations in support of the consolidated monthly close process and financial reporting, and for US and non-US entities as assigned.

    Some of the day-to-day responsibilities of this role include:

    • Prepare standard and ad hoc journal entries as a part of the monthly close

    • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including cash, accrued expenses and prepaid expenses

    • Responsible for maintaining and recording of Fixed Asset acquisitions, disposals and associated depreciation

    • Review and analyze monthly G/L detail to ensure accuracy of postings and to help understand performance of the entity and provide explanations for variances/trends

    • Prepare monthly P&L expense analysis and support of B/S change in activity for review with Manager of Global Accounting and/or International Accounting Manager

    • Assist in the preparation and review of monthly consolidated financial statements

    • Assist in annual audits (US GAAP, UK GAAP) and prepare audit schedules as necessary

    • Assist in compliance with local tax regulations, including coordinating or preparing VAT/GST returns, payroll returns and tax provisions

    • Serve as backup to other accounting teams

    THE CANDIDATE

    • Bachelor's Degree with a focus in accounting or business

    • Minimum of 2 years' experience in general accounting, preferably in a professional services firm

    • Experience and proficiency in using structured accounting systems is required

    • Proficiency in MS Excel

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    • Organizational and time management skills, as well as the ability to handle numerous projects and deliverables concurrently

    • Strong attention to detail and independent problem solving skills

    • Goal-oriented with a positive, can-do attitude, and a collaborative working style, with a willingness to roll-up sleeves and get things done

    • Strong customer service focus

    • Ability to work autonomously, be proactive, and manage the successful execution of multiple projects/priorities simultaneously

    • Must demonstrate work independence and ownership

    • Overtime, evening/weekend work may be required
