    Job Description

    The Environment, Health, Safety, and Quality Department supports mission performance and operational excellence while stewarding a safe working environment for all employees at NREL.

    As an intern supporting the ESHQ Requirements Management Administrator at NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory), you will play a vital role in providing assistance without direct responsibility for specific tasks.

    Your responsibilities will include

    • Assisting in the design, development, and delivery of user-centric compliant programs and procedures in collaboration with ESH&Q program owners.

    • Supporting the lead in developing ESH&Q's requirement lifecycle management structure (RLMS) within IBM Doors.

    • Aiding in tracking and updating impacts resulting from procedure and requirement changes.

    • Assisting program owners in maintaining requirements cross-walks and communicating changes to impacted roles.

    • Providing support in the development and maintenance of ESH&Q programs and procedures, including conducting impact assessments, project management plans, and stakeholder engagement.

    • Contributing to the maintenance of ESH&Q's requirements and traceability within the NREL RLMS (IBM Doors Platform).

    • Communicating gaps, conflicting requirements, or unclear requirements to program owners.

    • Assisting program owners in communicating changes in requirements to stakeholders.

    • Fostering sound technical and procedure writing practices and incorporating standards into ESH&Q programs and procedures.

    • Applying tools and processes to manage and track ESH&Q program and procedure changes along with associated project management plans.

    • Contributing to the creation, administration, analysis, and reporting of end-user feedback.

    • Ability to use various computer software programs.

    This internship provides an opportunity to contribute to the efficient management of ESH&Q requirements and gain hands-on experience in the renewable energy sector at NREL.

    Basic Qualifications

    Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

    Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor's degree program from an accredited institution.

    Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.

    Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master's degree program from an accredited institution.

    Post Graduate: Earned a master's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.

    Graduate + PhD: Completed master's degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution.

    Additional Required Qualifications

    • Demonstrated knowledge of cross-walking requirements and understanding change impact on management systems.

    • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

    • Excellent interpersonal skills with an emphasis on teamwork, communication, customer-service excellence, and coaching/motivational skills.

    • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.

    • Very strong customer service orientation.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with IBM Doors set-up, modification, conducting reviews, and facilitating changes.

    • Experience working with safety and health regulatory standards.

    • General knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and other regulatory standards used in workplace ESH&Q organizations.

    • Direct, recent experience with requirements lifecycle management concepts and tracking preferred.

    • In-depth, hands-on knowledge of document control and business management systems preferred.

    Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

    Job Profile: / Annual Salary Range: $42,700 - $68,300

    NREL takes into consideration a candidate's education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees.     Benefits Summary

    Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; 403(b) Employee Savings Plan with employer match*; and sick leave (where required by law). NREL employees may be eligible for, but are not guaranteed, performance-, merit-, and achievement- based awards that include a monetary component. Some positions may be eligible for relocation expense reimbursement. Internships projected to be less than 20 hours per week are not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits.
