If you've been thinking about re-locating to find the job of your dreams, why not move to a city that has a low rate of unemployment? For young people just entering the workforce or recent college grads, this could be the perfect time to find a new home in a city where there are plenty of jobs.
Some of the cities that offer the best prospects for people under 35 might surprise you. Here's the top 5:
Jacksonville, FL - The city of Jacksonville is home to three naval air stations with a steady stream of military personnel, which trickles down to create a robust community. The unemployment rate is 2.7 percent in the city and just 3.2 percent in the surrounding area, which is more that 7 percent lower than the national average. In addition to the military bases, Jacksonville is home to a large Toyota distributor.
Tulsa, OK - The oil capital of Tulsa is still booming. Currently, the unemployment rate is six points lower than the average, at 4.5 percent. In the surrounding area, the rate is still low, at just 6.2 percent. The city has added over 10,000 jobs in 2011 and almost half of them pay more that $50,000 a year. In addition to the good employment prospects, the cost of living in Tulsa is relatively low.
Fort Worth, TX - This city, situated right next to Dallas has an unemployment rate of 4.7 percent in the city, and 5.1 percent in the Dallas-Ft. Worth-Arlington area. In 2011, the city added over 57,000 jobs and was named the countries fourth most active market for corporate relocations.
Boston, MA - In Boston, the unemployment rate is a low 4.8 percent. Home to Harvard University, which employs about 18,000 people. Boston has become a haven for technology companies like iRobot and Clean Harbors, Inc. The city saw 50,000 new jobs in 2011 and are currently working on passing a casino bill, which would bring many more jobs to the area.
Washington, DC - Our nation's capital has become a haven for new jobs. From government to tourism to finance, this area offers jobs in almost every field. The unemployment rate for the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria area was just 5.4 percent.
