When you are looking for a job, keeping an eye on your online reputation is important. When you apply for a job, of course you are going to do a web search on the company and try to find out more information about the job opening and the corporate culture.

Likewise, when you are being interviewed for a job, you can be fairly certain that the potential employer has done a web search with your name and email in order to find out more about who you are.

Protecting your reputations isn't just for job seekers. There are tons of news articles out there about how someone got fired after their boss saw something they posted on the internet. It doesn't even have to be job related. If you make a political statement or express contraversial views publicly, some employers consider that a fire-able offense.
