About the Job
As the Digital Buyer of Hardgoods, you and your team will be responsible for setting the current and future digital merchandise strategy, driving digital sales through merchant initiatives, determining assortment selection, creating pricing strategy, and identifying promotional opportunities. This will include directing vendor selection and leading the negotiations of product purchase terms in addition to developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with selected vendors. You will also provide leadership to an Associate Digital Buyer in the creation of plans for purchases, communications, and implementation of controls for merchandise selection to maximize sales and margin dollars.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLILITIES include but are not limited to:
Drive Digital sales through prioritizing merchant initiatives.
Create optimized product assortments, secure robust product content, and collaborate on customer solutions
Provide project management for digital growth, finding and prioritizing the highest value opportunities
Drive the digital P&L through product and offers
Help create and leverage new capabilities for sales growth and for funding value to vendors - surface through JBP & terms
Autonomously negotiate promotional opportunities for vendors/products and create comprehensive marketing proposals.
Lead negotiations with large CPG vendors and represent PetSmart when meeting with senior leaders
Create basket driving opportunities and initiatives
Develop core reporting and routines to enhance digital acumen of the total Merch and MP&A pods
Collaborate with cross-functional teams that support business needs, including Marketing, PB and IT to ensure processes are in place for flawless execution
Scope and launch web only line extensions with new vendors and early tests of new items
Own the item build process, accelerate work to outsource as much as possible using Cummulous Tool.
Prioritize, and secure assets, to support creation of strong landing pages for categories, brands, and customer facing solutions.
Identify industry trends and developing innovative marketing and merchandising initiatives to support growth
Generate and implement big ideas to drive business improvement, innovation, and scale within their categories
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree in Merchandising Management, Marketing, or Business Management
5+ years of experience in eCommerce buying and merchandising
5+ years vendor negotiation experience
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Must demonstrate strong business acumen.
Must possess excellent problem-solving, analytical and critical thinking skills.
Must possess outstanding organizational skills, including attention to detail.
Must demonstrate ability to build partnerships/relationships with internal and external partners, leveraging interpersonal skills to build trust.
Must be able to multi-task in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
Must be proficient in using the Microsoft Office Suite including experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access.
Must demonstrate a high level of intellectual, professional and interpersonal ability and flexibility.
