Palliative Care, and the medical subspecialty of Palliative Medicine, is specialized medical care for people living with serious illness. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family. Palliative Care is provided by a multidisciplinary team who work together with the patient's other providers to provide an extra layer of support. It is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a serious illness and can be provided along with curative treatment. Subspecialty Palliative Care is provided by a team of trained medical professionals and includes complex symptom management, complex psychosocial support, and complex conflict resolution regarding goals of care.
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant has advanced health assessment and decision-making skills, prepared through a formal educational program that meets criteria established by the profession. NP's and PA's are certified by examination of an approved certifying body.
This individual works in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals to provide health care across the continuum of care for assigned patients. Provides primary health care to individuals and families. The provision of care includes, but is not limited to obtaining patient history, comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting, and interpreting diagnostic tests, and prescribing pharmacological agents and treatments and non-pharmacological therapies. Monitors the effectiveness of the therapeutic interventions. Makes appropriate referrals and preforms minor procedures as approved.
The position rotates in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. Some weekends and holidays required.
2 years of NP PA experience, fellowships will be considered
Must be a graduate of an accredited university.
Master of Science in Nursing required.
Must be licensed or eligible to practice as an CNP in the State of Arizona. Must have national certification.
Must be a graduate of an accredited university.
NCCPA certification required.
Must be licensed/certified or eligible to practice as PA in the State of Arizona.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership ability.
Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs. Some weekends and holidays required.
Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.
Primary care, acute care, and/or surgical experience preferred.
Strong computer skills in an Electronic Medical Record preferred.
License or certification
Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license to practice in the State of Arizona.
BLS and ACLS are required.
Physician Assistants, NCCPA certification is required.
Evidence of application for DEA certificate must be provided upon hire and obtained within 90 days of hire. Certification should be maintained thereafter unless waived by department/division.
